Biodiversity conservation in the Anthropocene: Challenges and future perspectives

Highlights

  • Focusing only on species vulnerability hotspots for spatial prioritization may increase the extinction risks of rare species.
  • The success in biodiversity conservation cannot be measured simply by fulfilling the percentage target but by assessing if the prioritized areas are truly representative of the extant biodiversity.
  • The survival of a species will depend upon how effectively two global threats (climate change and anthropogenic pressure) are addressed in the spatial planning and management of future protected areas.

Dr. Nawal Shrestha, a Young Professor at Lanzhou University, China, will give a talk on Biodiversity conservation in the Anthropocene: Challenges and future perspectives based on his recently published pioneering works.
